FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Anything else? Email us at hello@awsfundamentals.com and we answer within a day.

Which one should I start with?+

AWS Fundamentals if you want to be productive across the core services. The CloudWatch Book if your monitoring bill or your blind spots are the problem you have today. They cover different ground, so plenty of people own both.

What's actually in AWS Fundamentals?+

400+ pages across the 16 core services — IAM, compute, storage, databases, networking, messaging and observability — plus a practical introduction to Infrastructure as Code with CloudFormation, CDK and the Serverless Framework. The bundle adds 17 unbranded, print-ready infographics, one per service.

And in The CloudWatch Book?+

Every CloudWatch feature across 350+ pages: logs and Insights, metrics, alarms, dashboards, X-Ray, RUM, Synthetics, anomaly detection, OpenTelemetry and log aggregation. Each chapter ships its own infographic. The bigger packages add the full source of a real production project in Terraform and CDK, and 6+ hours of video.

Do I need to know a programming language?+

No. We walk you through the services and the configuration that matters. The Infrastructure as Code chapters use mostly TypeScript examples, but you can follow them without writing TypeScript yourself.

Isn't all of this in the AWS docs?+

Some of it. AWS is well documented, and that is exactly the problem — knowing which service to reach for and how to configure it is the real work. We show you the patterns we have used in production over and over, and the traps we walked into first.

Is this certification prep?+

No, and that's the point. Everything is aimed at systems you actually run. You'll be better prepared for an exam as a side effect, but we optimise for the day job.

Do you offer student, team or PPP discounts?+

All three. Teams of five or more get a licence and a proper invoice, students get a discount, and we honour purchasing power parity so the price matches where you live. Email hello@awsfundamentals.com and we sort it out.

What do I get after buying, and what if I change my mind?+

PDF and EPUB with no DRM, every future revision for free, and access to our Discord. If it's not for you, we refund within 30 days. No questions asked.
